Being Pulled In Every Direction

Posted in Other at 12:47 pm by bsdman

You know what grinds my gears? It’s being pulled in every direction.

I work in the IT field at a computer company. I’m the systems administrator for said company. My company also whores me out to other companies to help them with their systems. All told, the count for the number of OTHER companies rests at six, and the seventh is my full time gig. I also whore myself out when duty calls (haha, I said duty) on weekends and evenings.

That means at any given time I can have 7 problems exist (I won’t count my own whoring, since I can actively say NO to people that don’t employ me). What happens then?

Well, my boss leaves it up to me on what is a priority. And that means no matter what I choose I will not satisfy everyone. It’s a given fact that I cannot be in more than 2 places at a time (Remote access saves my ass a lot of moving).

When I ask the boss which is a higher priority, one of our clients or our own internal infrastructure, he only responds with “Make sure you take care of (insert customer name here)”. Does that mean I should say screw you to my own place of employment? I did that once, and was told that I need to make the company a priority by another boss.

So I hate being pulled in several directions at once.

And that’s what grinds my gears.

Being Carded

Posted in Other at 7:44 am by bsdman

You know what grinds my gears? It’s being carded for the stupid things in life. I can understand someone asking for an ID if I’m purchasing alcohol – I mean, I look like I’m right around the age of 21, so better safe than sorry. However, I’m not 21. I’m 25. Yessir – April of 1983. So why am I upset with being carded?

I was recently carded at a movie theater. You read correctly – a freakin movie theater. According to the MPAA rating system (which is a flawed system from a flawed company), I need to be over 17 OR with a legal guardian/parent. Since I was paying with a credit card, I figured maybe they needed to see my ID for that. But no, they only wanted to make sure I was over the age of 17.

I’m 6′ 4″
I have facial hair
I’m paying with a credit card
My fiance is getting popcorn – and she’s beautiful
I get carded because I don’t look over 17? Seriously?

Here’s what I don’t get: why wouldn’t I use a student discount then? Hell, it would save me $4 (a gallon of gas) if I did. Do they think I’m a 16 year old high school drop out? People please!

And that’s what grinds my gears.
